Debbie Nishihara at her stand.458 viewsDebbie is one of the associate editors for Bead & Button magazine.

Debbie had an astounding collection of beads from big name artists in the US which she made up into gorgeous jewellery pieces.

If only I had taken more money...

Purple Floral Lampwork Bead by Kerry Harper.jpg
Purple Floral Lampwork Bead by Kerry Harper197 viewsThe first bead I bought at the show was this one from Kerry.

I had picked this bead and the following dichroic one before Kerry told me that she had only been making beads for 12 months - and she is using a hothead!!

It almost made me feel like giving up bead making altogether! But I sorted myself out and am now even more determined to be able to do this well myself... ;-)

Good work Kerry...

Another Bead by Kerry Harper333 viewsThis one was bought for me for my birthday by Anita. Thank you Anita.

I was actually going to buy this one myself when I was having a look at Kerry's beads, but I decided to stick with purples and pinks...
Inside Out Bead by Anne Clifton.jpg
One of Anne Cliftons' famous Inside Out Beads194 viewsNow, I'm not into yellow, but I just could not resist this bead. (And Anne didn't have any other colours left by the time I got around to buying anything off her...)

I am amazed at how Anne gets the glass to swirl inside the bead like she does. So impressed in fact, that I think a trip to Perth is on the cards... lol

I'm sure Deano would like to go visit his birthplace of Kalgoorlie... ;-)

Kathryn demoing a hollow bead.jpg
Kathryn demoing a hollow bead198 viewsMy very first glass beadmaking class was with Kathryn Wardill in Brisbane in September/October 2003. I had seen some Lampwork Beads on eBay for the first time about a month or two prior, & although I had just quit my job, when I saw an advertisement for the class on the website of Albion Glass in Brisbane, I signed up. I was only going to do the 5 day beginners class, but ended up staying on & doing the three day advanced class afterwards. My entire final pay went into it, but it was money well spent.

The Mirus Beads challenge for August 2005 - Alice in Wonderland.98 viewsAlice peering over the mushroom at the hookah smoking caterpillar.

I had the brilliant idea to make these multi-piece beads. Remind me not to attempt this again unless I have a kiln. This was the 2nd Alice I made and her skirt broke whilst taking her off the mandrel.

The first Alice was too tall and skinny. I suppose I could have entered her as the 'growing Alice'. lol

The signed blue mushroom was a perfect find at a Antiques Fair that was in town for the week.

My 2005 Mirus Beads Valentines Exchange Bracelet99 viewsI have been on a roll lately. I spent a couple of hours this morning finishing off this bracelet. It contains some of the beads I received in the Valentines Exchange and I included some of my beads that were left over from the 80 odd that I made... The faces, the heart, the cylindrical "Love" and the small square with hearts are mine.

The first beads I ever Made - September/October 2003259 viewsI quit my job and spent my money on a 5 day Beginners Bead Making Class with Kathryn Wardill in Brisbane.

NOTE: I had other reasons for quitting my job - it wasn't so that I could earn an income from my beads... It doesn't work that way... lol

'Ocean' - Eni Oken style wire wrapped bangle.186 viewsMy second wire wrapped bangle ala Eni Oken. One of the forums I am a member of was having an Elements challenge with 'Water' as the theme. Being the ocean lover that I am, I immediately thought of making something that would show all the colours of the ocean. I added a couple of my hand made lampwork fish beads as well.2 comments

Turquoise, Carnelian & Bali Silver Necklace & Earring set.70 views10mm Turquoise Nuggets, 8mm Carnelian rounds, Bali Silver Daisy Spacers, and I cannot remember what the brown beads are.

I made this set to match the outfit that I had bought to wear to a friend/family members wedding. My $200 budget for an outfit, gift and card went wholly on the outfit... But what do you expect when the very first outfit you try on is 'the one'? lol You just gotta have it, right? Right!

October 2003 - Beads from 5 day Beginners Beadmaking Class Sept/Oct 03.29 viewsI have just returned home from my first Glass Beadmaking class with the first lampwork beads that I have ever made.... What fun!!! The class was organised through Albion Glass in Brisbane and our teacher was Kathryn Wardill. The beads cover what we learnt during the five days starting from the little slugs on the left...
3 day Advanced Class beads - With text~0.JPG
October 2003 - Beads from 3 day Advanced Beadmaking Class Oct 03.31 viewsA word of warning... Glass Beadmaking is highly addictive...!

I was only going to attend Kathryns beginners class, but once I got the hang of the melting glass and winding it onto mandrels to make pretty beads thing, I just had to sign up for her advanced class... Fortunately, I have a wonderful hubby who didn't mind me spending way more than we had originally planned...

These beads are from the 3 day Advanced class that followed.
Dsc04646 - Beads made at home.jpg
October 2003 - Beads made at home.44 viewsBefore I left Kathryns class, I made sure that I bought everything I would need to be able to set myself up to make beads once I got home. A Hothead torch, some glass, some tools, eye wear etc... Another thing I learned... You can never have too much glass...
